: Today at the Block at Redfern, in a huge
: marquee, a wonderful crowd farewelled Father
: Ted Kennedy. Ted has been one of the truly
: prophetic figures in our church and nation
: during his lifetime and his farewell was
: suitable to the gift he has been to so many
: of us.
:
: Sadly I was away and not able to be at his
: funeral, but the word from first-hand is
: that it was the most wonderful celebration
: of what being Catholic is really about.
: Eulogieis, songs, people coming in from all
: angles to touch the casket and say their
: farewell, suited up white
: Aussies, Aboriginal people from all over the
: country, including one man who in his
: wheelchair whelled himself all the way to
: Ted's coffin during the ceremony to bid Ted
: farewell.
:
: Led by the wonderful Bishop David Cremin,
: and witnessed by over 800 people, supported
: by the music of Ted's great friend, and top
: jazz pianist, Kevin Hunt, this was a
: celebration of a man who stood firm in the
: gospel and lived it with utter transparency.
:
: I am thankful to have known Ted and to had a
: number of very memorable encounters with
: him.
:
: May his wonderful spirit now be at rest, and
: may our memories of him continue to call us
: deeper into the living of the gospel.
