Salty Bait for Striper

Seems to be a shortage of the typical shiners that are commonly used for striper fishing. I have run across several bait shops that normally sell the shiners and now all they have is the Salty's. I have turned them down so far, I am thinking I tried some unknowingly last fall and was unsuccesful with them. Any opinions of experience anyone would like to share.
