I recently purchased a 20 gallon Keep Alive Bait Tank which includes a 460 gph pump/aerator. This worked much better than a plain 5 gallon bucket with inexpensive air stones and bubblers, but I still had problems keeping herring alive overnight or too many shiners alive for more than a few hours - not to mention the fish were not very active after a couple of hours.
I see a lot of reviews for expensive bait tanks like Creek Bank, so I looked into it and found an awesome product they have called a Creek Bank Bait Spa which is a small drop in self contained 12v aerator with filter for $ 129.95

I could not find it at any local stores here, but I called Tim at Creek Bank 704 986.6444 and he was VERY helpful. Tim said the Bait Spa uses the same aerator setup thats in their 20 gallon tanks and has almost 50 square inches of filter surface area.
After adding their Bait Spa to my bait tank last weekend I am EXTREMELY happy with it's results. My Herring stay alive and active MUCH better and longer and shinersare still doing fine after being in it for the past 5 days.
It has an easy to clean filter which is especially good for herring which shed their scales.
I can highly recommend their product if you need an affordable aerator + filter unit for your bait tank.
