I switched to 10 - 12 lb 100% fluorocarbon line for freelines a few years back and it really seemed to increase hookups. Sinks faster, stays down better while slow trolling and is less visible in the clear water than mono. Put on a 1 - 2 oz rubbercore sinker quickly and change to downline if you land on fish or it's later in the day.
