Season's Greetings ASG'ers,
Well, we've made it through another year at ASG. When the calendar rolls over on January 1, ASG will be entering its 20th year of existence, which means next year is going to be a watershed year for ASG. But, before we get there, we want to end the year in style.
If you have not been to an ASG meeting in a little while, make sure tomorrow night is the one you attend. We have a VERY special show planned tomorrow night with some truly legendary songwriters on hand who will help ASG end a very successful year on a solid note. Check out this lineup.
Freddy Powers: When you hear Texas Music Legends being discussed, you can be sure that the name of Freddy Powers is part of the discussion. His songs have been covered by other musical legends for years, including Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, George Jones, and Merle Haggard, just to mention a few. Besides the songwriting hits, Freddy is a gifted performer who never fails to entertain.
Sonny Throckmorton: In the roll call of the great country songwriters of all time, it is safe to say that the name of Sonny Throckmorton will be sounded. Inducted in to the Country Music Hall of Fame along with Roy Orbison, Sonny has penned many songs that have become huge hits, including "The Cowboy Rides Away" one of George Strait's signature songs, and just last year, Willie Nelson tapped four of Sonny's new songs for one of his records. If you have never seen Sonny perform, you really should, as he is one of the most engaging and honest entertainers you will ever see.
Monte Warden: I know Monte is going to have a good time on stage with Freddy and Sonny, but I'm equally certain they will be looking forward to sharing the spotlight with Monte who is most certainly a Texas Songwriting Legend in the making. With over 40 cuts to his credit already, Monte has already hit #1 pay dirt with George Strait's fifty-first #1 song, "Desperately," and has had his songs covered by Travis Tritt, Kelly Willis and Patty Loveless, among others. His songwriting star is currently blazing and still on the rise, and there is surely the best yet to come for him.
As if these three weren't enough, we will also host a bevy of ASG's favorite performers with special guest appearances from Robert McEntee, Stop the Truck, Bobby Arnold, Steve Carter and many others. The Open Mic portion of the evening will kick off at 6:00 with the main show taking the stage around 8:00.
This is the last Threadgill's meeting this year, and we won't be meeting here again until February. There will be no January meeting at Threadgill's, so this is your last chance this year to perform on the Threadgill's stage. We expect a big crowd and probably a lot of songwriters for the Open Mic. So, get out there early and help ASG celebrate another great year as well as the holiday season.
See y'all at the show!
