Posted by Jessica New LP Completed, Youngest Son of Doug Sahm Takes to Local Stages, Airwaves Tuesday, April 11 (Austin, TX) – Veteran Austin rocker Shandon Sahm returns with his new CD “Knock Yourself Out” which features 10 tracks, including eight originals along with his take on two of his father’s (Doug Sahm) songs. Using the garage and arena rock of his youth as a starting point, Shandon manages to bridge the gap between the minimalism of Stooges-era Iggy Pop and the glam-rock excess of Kiss. In recording “Knock Yourself Out,” Shandon, a former member of Pariah and the Meat Puppets, took a true DIY approach, recording the vocals, drums, and rhythm guitar by himself before inviting a few of his friends to build upon the foundation he created. Guests on the album include Amplified Heat’s Jim Ortiz, Buka Allen from Ian Moore’s band, Tony Scalzo of Fastball, and others. The album is available now at Waterloo Records and Cheapo’s Discs in Austin, TX and will soon be available online via www.cdfuse.com. Now that “Knock Yourself Out” has been released, Shandon and band are staying busy with a full slate of live performances starting with a show on Friday, April 14th at Antone’s with Soulhat. Shandon can also be seen on the Wednesday, April 12th edition of the KTBC local Fox Morning Show, where he will be commenting on the previous night’s American Idol that features contestants doing their best Freddie Mercury imitations.
