Posted by Jessica Austin, TX, August 15, 2006 – Palmer Drug Abuse Program, a free drug abuse rehabilitation program, is hosting the 3rd Annual Austin Rockin’ Blues Festival August 19 & 20, 2006 at Carlos and Charlie’s on Lake Travis. This two day event will include a Silent Auction as well as an All-Star lineup of bands playing on two stages. Tickets went on sale July 1st. Two day passes are $40 and one day passes in advance are $25. Tickets can be purchased at www.frontgatetickets.com or at Carlos and Charlie’s. This two day event will feature a wide array of Blues bands playing in support of Drug Abuse Rehabilitation. On the lineup are popular bands such as Soul Asylum, Kenny Wayne Shepherd & Double Trouble, Monte Montgomery and many more. Also on the line-up are Art Attack Promotions’ artists: John Lee Hooker, Jr., deSoL, and Matt McCormack and Rock Bottom Choir. Catch them as they make their returns to the Lone Star State from San Francisco, CA, Asbury Park, NJ, and Los Angeles, CA, respectively. John Lee Hooker, Jr., heir to one of the most prestigious names in the history of blues and a leader in ushering this deeply rooted American art form into the new century, makes his Telarc debut with a rollicking, straight-to-the gut recording, Cold As Ice. John Lee Hooker, Jr. does justice to the revered blues legacy attached to his name. He’s made national headlines with his Grammy nomination, WC Handy Award for Best New Artist Debut, and his relentless world touring. Based in Asbury Park, NJ, deSoL is a brotherhood whose music mixes melodic rock hooks with fiery Latin rhythms sung in English, Spanish & "Spanglish." The result is a musical stew where the individual styles of the seven musicians combine to create a sound that is both fresh and familiar. deSoL's self-titled CD was released nationally in the summer of 2005 and a new indie release, "LiVE/ViVO," from this past year's tour (including a packed performance at 2005’s Austin City Limits Festival) is out now. The music and message is upbeat and positive and appeals to listeners of all ages and backgrounds. Making his first return to Texas after a relocation to Los Angeles, CA, Matt McCormack brings back his Rock Bottom Choir. Austin’s All-Star alliance Rock Bottom Choir fills you more from the righteous soul and less from the worldly body. Singer-songwriter Matt McCormack leads his faithful congregation with the dueling guitars of Ryan Carter (Dewato) and Will Sexton, along with the rest of the Choir; George Reiff (Chris Robinson’s New Earth Mud) on bass, Joey Shuffield (Fastball) on drums, Matthew Mollica on Hammond B-3 organ and Bill Carter on mandolin and banjo. With a sound that lands sublimely between George Harrison’s 1971 All Things Must Pass, which featured the classic “My Sweet Lord” and Bob Dylan’s 1979 seminal spiritual rock album Slow Train Coming, Rock Bottom Choir’s For All the Saints will rock your soul right out of purgatory. All proceeds from the Austin Rockin’ Blues Festival benefit the Palmer Drug Abuse Program. More information on the Austin Rockin’ Blues Festival can be found at www.lakeaustinbluesfestival.com. This event promises to bring great music and musicians to the Live Music Capital of the World. Since 1971, PDAP has offered premier Research-Based Recovery, Education, and Prevention Services. PDAP has provided free services designed to prevent the onset of, interrupt the progression of, and support the recovery of substance abuse for adolescents and their families. In order for the Palmer Drug Abuse Program to stay afloat and offer free services, money is raised through donations and fundraising. 60% of the funds required to keep PDAP free and active in our schools and community comes from the Austin Rockin’ Blues Festival.
