Hello, Casey,
I am the librarian at Blackshear Elementary School on East 11th in Austin. My students need books at home, but most are unable to purchase them. Many of my personal friends are in the music industry, and I created a project called Music for Literacy. The purpose of the project is to provide free books for children in East and South Austin in order to promote literacy skills at home. This is a personal project, however I am collaborating with AISD to identify students in need via demographic information.
My goal is to provide books for the students at Blackshear and Govalle Elementary Schools, which is approximately 700 children. They will select books to take home in May for summer reading. We are accepting monetary and new book donations. All contributions will go toward the purchase of books to give to kids. All help is greatly appreciated.
