Posted by Sharon Jones on 3/17/2004, 10:25 am On Wednesday, March 17 at Joe's Generic, 6th Street's only surviving free live blues bar, there will be more than a quarter century difference in ages (and experiences) between The Big Nasty, the young alt-southern blues rock group opening the show at 2:00 PM and the Joe Richardson Express, a veteran Texas trio full of low-down dirty swamp blues, who close out the show starting at 10:00 PM.

VIEWPOINT ARTISTS TO PERFORM DURING WEEK OF SXSW FESTIVITIES
March 15, 2004. Amongst all the official hustle and bustle of the SXSW Music Festival, Austin based Viewpoint Records is very proud to help keep alive a pure, uncut slice of Austin history with two artists performing live original blues and blues rock on 6th Street, in a traditional laid-back atmosphere.
With one foot anchored firmly in roots blues tradition and the other stepping boldly into pure rock n' rollthe music of Rhode Island natives The Big Nasty gets down & dirty, with an in-your-face kind of attitude. Using blues only as a foundation allows The Big Nasty the freedom to stamp their own imprint into Austin's rock arena. Influences of blues, rock, country, gospel, and jazz breathe life into Whiskey Drunk, their debut album of original rock n' roll released by Viewpoint Records in February 2004. Moving to Austin in 2002 after graduating college (or high school in the case of bassist Phil Agins) the band has managed to realize their dreams of recording in a world class studio filled with state-of-the-art and vintage analog equipment, allowing them the luxury of reinterpreting the warm sounds of the 60's and 70's rock scene they love so much.
On the flip side of the blues chart is Joe Richardson, who's long white hair and pained expression indicates a simpler blues-based life, filled with more heartache and hardship then The Big Nasty has yet to live. Sticking to straight electric blues and tasteful harmonica, it's Richardson's baritone voice that leaves the greater impression. Richardson released the critically acclaimed Stripped Down, in 2003, his third blues album put out by Viewpoint Records. Both The Big Nasty and Joe Richardson Express are performing several shows throughout the week, all details are listed below.
