ANDY MORENO BLENDS LATIN JAZZ WITH ELECTRONICA
March 5, 2004 (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain) -- Andy Moreno, a Cuban-Spanish saxophone and clarinet player, will release his brand new CD "From My Roots" on March 16. Recorded together with Cuban musician Oriel Ray Montero, a specialist in afro-Cuban percussion and drums, "From My Roots" is an excellent
blend of latin jazz and electronic music.
While studying at the Academy Amadeo Roldán, Andy Moreno started to work with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, one the most prominent
jazz pianists today. He also took part in jazz sessions carried
out by guitarist René Luis Toledo. As a recording study
musician, Andy has worked with the family of musical producers
Tony Taño and Aneiro Taño (producers of Feliciano and Francisco
Céspedes).
"There are many people who would like to listen to somewhat
different," Andy Moreno explains his driving force. "The contact
of modern sonorous elements with ethnic music and fusion of
styles is what really takes me off. It's not only composition,
it is also an investigation if you will, a need to create
something different."
"From My Roots" was recorded using Logic Platinum 6, Helicon
Voice Prism and lots of exotic percussions such as congas,
djembe, bongoes, güiro, maracas and paila. The CD consists of
original songs written by Andy and mixed by Javier Ramírez,
sound engineer of the annual Festival of jazz of Gran Canaria.
"This album is my powerbook, where my efforts become the sound
that I need more than my own blood, or perhaps that sound is my
own blood," Andy is proud of his latest release.
