Move over, Lucinda: Jolie Holland's my new sweetheart of the alt-country rodeo.”---- JONATHAN VALANIA- PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY review of Escondida Anti Records – home to musical icons, Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Daniel Lanois – is proud to announce the April 27 release of JOLIE HOLLAND’s first studio album ‘Escondida.’ Combining blues, folk, jazz and pop in totally inventive ways, ‘Escondida” marks the emergence of a unique and important new voice.  HOLLAND will kick off a Spring tour of the US on May 14 at San Francisco’s Swedish American Hall. Though never intended for public ears, HOLLAND’s prior release ‘Catalpa,’ the self-released basement tape recordings, ended up receiving global critical acclaim.  Time Out London raved that HOLLAND released “one of the most subtly startling debut albums of recent years,” while The Guardian UK called ‘Catalpa’ “a simultaneously fresh, ageless and timeless debut,” and The Independent UK described it as “a stark, spooky, gothic gem.”  HOLLAND also won over fans Stateside with The Chicago Sun-Times proclaiming ‘Catalpa’ “a work of unsettling beauty that evinces a sense of déjà vu,” and Paste Magazine calling HOLLAND “a songwriting talent of poetic grace.” The San Francisco Chronicle even named ‘Catalpa’ one of their 10 Best Albums on 2003.  Originally from Texas, and now based in San Francisco, HOLLAND was one of the founding members of the Be Good Tanyas and was heavily featured on their debut “Blue Horse.”  Now with her first official solo studio offering ‘Escondida’ out later this month, HOLLAND is ready for center stage.
