You'll learn a lot by reading him, "Power" is set in South Africa, "Fires" in Australia. Expect to pay a little more than you're used to for books in Australia, but these are very much worth it. For beach reading, to stay on the Aussie theme, try a Sydney resident named Matthew Riley. Very exciting, slightly implausible, page-turning action stuff. Think $300 million action movie. Try "Ice Station." I love recommending books, so I'll give you some more, in order of strength of recommendation: 1. East of Eden - John Steinbeck So glad to hear that you have made it safely to Sydney, my favorite city in the world. Keep the updates coming so that I may continue to live vicariously through you and Marty. Best, Dan --Previous Message--
Bri,
2. Beach Music - Pat Conroy
3. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Ken Kesey
4. Nine Stories - JD Salinger
5. Boys Life - Robert McCammon
6. Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs - Chuck Klosterman
7. A Prayer For Owen Meany - John Irving
: Bri:
: One of my favorite authors is Bryce
: Courtenay, who is an Aussie. His first book
: was The Power Of One, and is still one of my
: favorites. He's written about 8 novels now,
: and they are next to impossible to get in
: the US, so I'd HIGHLY recommend you pick
: some up in Oz while you're there. I don't
: think you'll be disappointed.

: Enjoy...T
