You can still see tons of fortifications there. - Victor Hugo (Les Miserables, etc.) used to write there. Think he may have died there, too. - the islands sit in the middle of the Channel (duh), really close to France. Because of the currents, it's a much more sunny and (almost) tropical sort of climate. - Cornell and Penn college students hold the majority of the track records there, so I can't imagine that their Commonwealth teams are too formidable.
