When racing at altitude you can either acclimate short term (arrive 1 day before the event) or longer term (10+ days before the event). The worst period is during adjustment from 3-10 days so if the race is on a Saturday, arriving Friday would be best, Tuesday would be bad. couple links - racing at altitude- training at altitude --Previous Message--

: Marty,
: In Oct. my wife and I were heading out to
: Denver for a little R&R. There is a new
: marathon in Denver and I was thinking about
: doing it. How hard would it be since Denver
: is a mile above sea level? The course did
: say it was flat and I don't care so much
: about my time. I would like to use this as
: a warm up for a strong marathon in Feb.
: Would I be crazy to run it? I did run 7
: miles out there a few years ago and it
: seemed fine.
