Sighting a white ball is easier at St.Bees School, Stainburn School & Cockermouth School & Dovenby Hall (all have at least one end with a lot of trees behind the bowler)also historically at Broughton (barely used in 2007). The cricket club grounds - Braithwaite & Cockermouth are poorer seeing grounds than Egremont, Seascale & Workington. Sighting any ball at Baggrow at certain times of the evening is nearly impossible. It is easier late & early season to see a White Ball, perhaps in mid-season the red ball is easier - providing the bowler is wearing wearing a white shirt.
In the past we had teams that wore darker shirts & used darker balls when the light was worse than they did when the light was better.
: On a few occasions this seson more than one
: individual has made comments about how
: difficult it is to see a white ball when
: most players seem to wear white whilst
: bowling.
: With the exception of WCLS ground at St.Bees
: I cannot see why any other location should
: require a white ball as these are just as
: hard to see in the twilight evenings.
: Could we make it a rule either that we all
: use red balls unless it is a location like
: St.Bees or that Bowlers MUST wear non white
: shirts.
