As a loyal life long Mark Mcgwire fan, I wanted to introduce myself to the other mcgwire fans out there. I am 25 years old now. And as a small boy living in Anchorage, my family soon moved south to a small Oregon coast town in 1988. My first friend there was a huge canseco fan and I started to follow mcgwire and we called ourselves the bash brothers. I started to collect his cards and by middle school I had about 400 different mcgwire cards. Without the internet, getting odd mcgwire cards was hard to come by back in the day. I was so into cards at that time, I even held my own tables at card shows at that age. My family took a vacation to Seattle to watch the Mariners vs A's in 1992 so I could watch my idol. It was the first and only time I saw the guy. It is a lifelong dream to meet the big guy. I was 18 years old when he broke the homerun record and it made me feel good that I was a life long fan and he did his thing at the peak of my life as well.
It wasnt until just a couple of years ago that I picked up the thought of adding to my collection. And within that time I have rounded up about another 1,000 different mcgwire cards along with some memerobilia including autographs, jerseys, and oddball items.
I recently started to look for a fan club on the internet and this seems to be the best bet to find other fans like me. My friends think Im a little crazy, but I say thats what defines a true fan. He has done so much for the game of baseball. Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing big Mac in the Hall of Fame here soon.
