Posted by tom To answer your first question, yes--it can be marketable and worth publishing. The success of Canseco's book and Game of Shadows proves that there is an intense interest not only from their fans (and foes?), but from baseball in general and I guarantee from the bodybuilding industry. Having been working in the comic book industry for over a decade (and currently authoring my own book), I can tell you that the success of this book will depend A LOT on how well you market it--and that in itself will cost money (you gotta spend money to make money). Then it's a case of picking up distributors to get your book on the shelves around the country (and world?). I think your intentions are good, as most of us here are McGwire supporters. Because you're presenting the material in a matter-of-fact manner (steroid scandal), be careful of treading the fine line of supporting/bashing--it's a tough balance if you're going to go to bat for Big Mac, but at the same time bringing up the steroid topic. Your ideas are well thought-out, and with enough information and research (including pictures--pics sell!) to fill out a 300-page or more book, it would do well with good advertising/press, IMO. If your writing style is interesting enough, it will do very well. One issue I want to address: You say Mac didn't have HOF seasons until '96, but keep in mind that even his rookie season was HOF caliber because he broke the rookie record, and from 1993 to 1995 were his injury years, so it's tough to tell. For instance, in 1995 he had 39 HRs in 317 at-bats! That's a ratio of 1 HR every 8.1 at-bats, and an article I read said that if you projected that over a full season, he would have had 64 HRs! Best,

Paul, hard to believe Mac is already going to go on the ballot this soon! It just seems like yesterday that he was still playing! ![]()
