Yes, Howard did have a spectacular season. I don't disagree with you there. But your argument about him not having any protection is flawed, simply due to the fact that Pujols had none either. I love Rolen and Edmonds, but they were essentially non-existent for the second half of the season. Albert also had no regular lead-off hitter for a good portion of the season, cutting down on his RBI chances, and was hitting behind, though a good one, a rookie. Howard had Utley, Rollins, and, for part of the season, Abreu in the lineup to help him out. The only stats Howard bested Pujols in were HR and RBI. Average, OBP, slugging, and fielding percentage went to Pujols, and I'd have to say that he also has an edge in intagibles such as clubhouse leadership. But, the main idea about my original rant was based on the hypocrisy in voting. I'm almost convinced there is some sort of St. Louis bias in the voting system. Only when Cardinals absolutely demolish the competition do they get the respect they deserve. Pujols and Carpenter had absolutely no one close to them last year for MVP and Cy Young, and deservedly earned it. Pujols should have at least 3 MVPs, but had to take a back seat to Satan, er, I mean Bonds early on. Again, many of those years, the Giants failed to make the playoffs, while the Cardinals advanced. I don't know if the BBWA has some sort of coastal bias or if they're just jealous of the success of the Cards, but it needs to stop. Mac for the HOF!!!!
