Posted by Tim Harris A pro athlete generally has a very few years to earn high salaries, most of us “working folks” have 40-50 years to earn. If you had the extraordinary talent these athletes possess, you too would be able to garner millions of dollars for either kicking or hitting a ball around or as most put it, “playing children’s games”. I, along with most of my friends, followed the McGuire – Sosa year with astonishment, not only was one player going to break the Babe’s “unbreakable” record, which my mother had time and time again told me, would never be broken, but two were going to smash the record that Babe held so dear. Then came the most unimaginable feat, one of our own San Francisco Giants was going to break those records shortly thereafter, why there was a chorus of cheers in heaven at the resurgence of our beloved sport! Does any fan not understand that the art of hitting a round object with a round object is the most difficult thing in sport? Except perhaps possibly listening to the whining sportswriters and others who don’t seem to understand that once upon a time, it was deemed not only ridiculous but actually harmful to lift weights during the off season. Why it would make you “muscle bound” and you couldn’t properly swing the bat! Babe did it with Hot Dogs and beer and the raised mound doesn’t make any difference and juiced balls and corked bats and any other thing that has made up our wonderful National Pastime is just that, a part of the wonderful game of Baseball. Ty Cobb would slide in with his sharpened cleats up and kicking, he wouldn’t have played the game with a black player but he’s in the HOF and I don’t hear anybody whining for his removal as a bigot. Let’s get Mark in the hall, where he belongs! He helped put the fans and excitement and interest back in our game! We need to put Sammy and Barry there too, when it’s their time. Newspapers are a dying medium, along with the sportswriters who are now doing the balloting. It’s OUR game and OUR Hall should have who we want, in there! What part of it isn't illegal or wasn't at the time don't people understand? In any event, a million a month for 5 years is only 60 million… Do the math!

Seems to me that when I went to school, a 250M contract for 5 years adds up to 4.16M per month for 60 months. Perhaps the "Teacher" should be more concerned with learning math!
