This is what the hall of fame should represent. The joy that a great player brought to the game and to the fans.
I also had the privelege of seeing Mark play. Amazingly in 1998 at Dodger Stadium, and got to see one of his historical 70 homers. It was probably the "tallest" home run I've ever seen. At first I thought it was a pop fly, because it went practically straight up. I was initially disappointed, because I think it was his last at bat, and thought for sure this would be another out. But it just kept going up and up. The crowd was silent too; not the typical cheer when a big hit starts. But it just kept going and it eventually landed back, deep in the left-center bleachers. The L.A. crowd erupted in cheers and applause. Unbelievably, I snapped a picture of that homerun swing, which remains in my collection and is still today my greatest baseball game memory.
