I followed McGwire's career voraciously from 1996 to the end and his close relationship with Jay was well documented.
I really didn't want to believe it but I always felt like it was true. Despite how much I enjoyed all the longballs and his humble demeanor I called him out to friends based on his size and health in 98 and 99 apart from the Andro.
He was great (hitting 49 or 50 as some say) in his rookie year but his size became massive and it just didn't make sense. My eyes told me what my heart didn't want to believe.
I think Canseco lied but I think Jay is telling the truth. He's extremely religious and I think that is a big part of why he's doing this.
I know how painful it's been to watch McGwire implode, hide and continue to hide since he retired imagine how hard it must be for his family...I'm still thankful for those moments when I watched the impossible become reality but I knew and I know, Jay's telling the truth.
