The Mothman was supposed to have been seen in NY according to some of the info I have read (I am a amateur anomalies researcher myself) and I would not be surprised to see Mothman turn up anywhere at any time.
Here is why: from the first time I read the Mothman data, I would have been ready to cross him off the cryptid list as mass hysteria and owl-sightings...EXCEPT for the fact that the Mothman is far too much like demons in folklore (yes, a demon I said). There is enough basis in actual history to give that one would materialize in P. Pleasant--there was a powerful Native American chief named Cornstalk who cursed the land there after being betrayed by the early settlers and soldiers there. The Mothman, like many other supernaturals, never really seemed to do much more than terrify people and exhibit strange and confusing phenomena. Demons enjoy doing his sort of thing to the humans they manifest before, because they feed on the fear of humans they have so frightened with relish. The problem with demons once they are summoned: they are very hard to banish. The curse summoned vengence from the Great Spirit, but the chief who set the curse in motion is dead, and the demon is free to wander. Being a demon, he won't show up anywhere unless there is opportunity for him somehow to make people afraid, and he'll want to not attract the attentions of too many at once as to be discovered and driven off. Yes, there are people around still who know how to perform things like exorcisms, not the least of which are remaining Native American shaman folk, who could handle Mothman best. So, Mothman is likely off somewhere else, just biding his time and looking for a good hiding spot to begin to prey on people from again.
I'm merely presenting you with my arguement but not providing support, because it would take too much space here to explain, but I suggest you bone up on multiple sources surrounding Mothman if you feel you've been seeing him--and remember, nothing is from outer space in folk history. It's from other places.
Good luck in your studies.
