You know, I can't figure out why the Hollywood version of "The Mothman Prophecies" claimed to be "based on a true story," when the TRUE story of what happened in Point Pleasant has never been sorted out nor explained to any real satisfaction. I mean, the movie was little more than a skewed collection of anecdotes with a decidedly thin fictional plot. When the producers approached what COULD have been the only facts of the story (the collapse of the Silver Bridge, for example), they chose to DEFLATE the facts rather than sensationalize them. I don't GET this---typically, Hollywood takes mundane incidents and blows them all out of proportion. In this instance, however, a certainly sensational story was scrubbed, bleached, and dried on high-heat until it resembled nothing so much as a withered facsimile of The Mothman Prophecies.
