I've been in music for most of my life. When I started listening to heavy metal, Pantera was one of the first bands I started listening to. With the raw raunchy chords from Darrell to Phil screaming like a possesed freak. Pantera was different and fresh as metal went in the 80s. I was at every show they put on, mostly at the Diamond Ballroom and even got to meet one of my favorite drummers, Darrell's brother, Vinnie. Pantera had a sound on their own. To have such and senseless killing of a person who only loved to live on stage banging his head, smokin weed and trying to make his goatee as pink as possible Darrell had the life that most of us little indie bands only dream about. It's a tragic end to a free spirited life. Even though we didnt know him on a personal level, when youre in a band its kind of like a rather large brotherhood. We back each other up and argue like were married. So when one of us is lost, it kind of hits home and puts a lump in your throat. Its like we lost a member of the family. I know that I speak for all the guys in the band when I say we will miss Darrell and the energy he had on stage. Here's to ya dude with "Good friends and a bottle of pills".
