Most of the time in the bible when prophecy came forth it was God speaking to the entire nation. When biblical people got individual prophetic messages it was for them to do something that would move forth the kingdom of God or to show God's ability. It was also given under the prophet being sent directly to the individual by God. But, I do find that when people get messages foretelling stuff usually it comes through their own channels of dreams, intuition, and/or keeping an eye out and putting the pieces together. Can a prophet be sent to a town with a word from the Lord-I would imagine so, but the true prophet won't have to advertise. Matter of fact they may actually be living among us and never be known un til a need for prophecy to come forth. Of course these are just my thoughts-that and $2.00 will get you on the bus.
