The Pastor does have some jealousy issues. That is clear.
You should also think about your ego issues. We all have "ego"...especially those of us who have gifts. Ask yourself, honestly about the amount of "your" music that you teach and why.
Teaching your own, God-given music is not a bad thing in and of itself....But some writers teach their own stuff because they don't want to learn other stuff....We -- all of us writers -- have to be careful that we use our music with the same "filters" we choose to use the music of others.
As a matter of personal choice, I do not teach most of the music that I write at the church where I serve, just so that I can avoid that particular issue. I think my current church sings 3 songs that I wrote...and we might sing each one once or twice per year.
Now, I do teach my stuff at GMWA rehearsal and at workshops...but I'm from an old school of thought that tries not to let my good be evil spoken of....which is to say...that I intentionally try to decrease in my local assembly.
I'll never forget the time I sang "Everything I Need You Are" at the Hampton Minister's Conference...The church I served asked, "Why haven't you taught that to us?" And...well...I still haven't. They could sing it. But I never want to hear, the foolishness that is regularly generated by our people -- from pulpit to pew.
I can easily avoid it by not teaching it at home...so that's become my choice.
Again, that's a personal matter -- choice.
So...even in this instance...with me sharing my perspective...I say to you, "eat the meat and spit out the bone." Use what you can.
