one trained in the pastorship but has a full-time secular job...that describes many pastors...
I know that when I was a little girl, my pastor worked full-time for the federal government;but there was never a doubt that his love was the church. Many times when we could not come up with the money for this or that (including the mortgage!) he would take his entire paycheck and spend it on the church he loved. Modern times have allowed many black pastors to be full-time ministers without secular jobs, yet there are still others who must work outside the church as well as inside of it...
Sure, there are some who would consider those pastors "lay" pastors because they more like the body of worshippers and not just the clergy only. But you are so correct when you say that this is not a term traditionally used in the black church (at least not in any of the churches I have known.)
Peace

: they?
:
: I just never heard of this in black
: denominations. Somehow I believe this would
: breed huge divisions because there are so
: many power struggles in black churches
: nobody wants lowly positions or to be a
: servant they want to be Minister one week
: and Arch Bishop the next. LOL
