I bought my 1993 Miata C last August and plan to drive it all year long, both here in the Chicago area and eventually in western NC. Following others' advice I'm going to get Blizzaks mounted at all four corners.
Re rear window icing, if it's a glass window, the "FrostFighter" 9-wire rear window defroster (kit) is excellent. I installed it on my soft-top's glass window before our first frosty nights and find it a godsend, especially on humid evenings when the window fogs up a storm. The only caveat is that (1) the space behind the seats is VERY cramped - lots of patience helps in the installation, and (2)all 9 of the grid wires need to be installed for correct electrical resistance, four one one sheet of slick paper and five on the other. I installed the five first, then interleaved the two of the remaining four between the last two of the set of five. $40 for a rear defroster is a pretty good deal.
