Posted by Bill Latsha I would bet your car has bad rear shocks, and you would greatly benefit with new ones. At your milage, if you replace the back ones, and drive the car, the front will then feel "soft". For best handling, I would replace all 4 of the shocks. Unfortunately it is not a real easy job to do at home. After you remove the shock with the coil still on it, you need a spring compressor to change the spring from the old to the new shock. I am familiar with what to do, but have never done it myself. You just have to be careful of the preload on the coil spring.

The Miata actually uses a "coil over" shock, not a strut. It looks similar, but is a lot different.
