Posted by Geoff on 7/2/2006, 4:56 pm, in reply to "Re: Boy and Barrel, Wakefield" As I think I said I do not have much only the Will of William Sigston born 1803 Wakefield part of which reads . . . unto William Newton Wilkinson & William Secker & the survivor of them their & his heirs & assigns all that messuage or tenement used as an Inn or Public House & known by the sign of the Boy & Barrel with the rights members & appurtenances thereto belonging situate at the bottom of Northgate in the Old Market Place in Wakefield in the County of York & also & all that yard stables Brewhouse outbuildings rights members & appurtenances thereto belonging situate in New Street in Wakefield aforesaid . . . an agreement already prepared bearing date the fourth day of January one thousand eight hundred sixty one whereby my said sons & daughters & sons in law have mutually agreed amongst themselves & with their said Mother the said Sarah that the said Sarah Sigston shall have & receive the rents & profits of the said hereditaments & premises during her life . . . ". Signed 19 May 1861. The Innkeeper in Registers of 1822 and 1829 is one James Shaw I have yet to find the Pub on any Census but will try and let you know what I find over the next couple of weeks. I know a Boy and Barrel Pub was seen in the Film This Sporting life (but not our one).
What is your connection to it and do you have any additional information that you could send me.
