Hi, a few years ago I used to work with Benjamin Lowrie, whose middle name is Dobson, Bens relatives used to be the proprieters of the pub. I'm not sure where Ben is living as I've not seen him since his retirement, he used to live just off Park Lodge Lane Eastmoor. Ben used to tell the tale of Boy and Barrel pub everytime we drove through Wakefield. According to Ben the pub was closed for refurbishment, whilst this was going on a rival landlord at the Talbot and Falcon got a petition together to build a memorial to Queen Victoria and also to site it where the Boy and Barrel pub was located. the petition was succesful and Boy and Barrel duly demolished to make way for the statue of Queen Victoria. I always understood the location to be almost on an island with tramlines on all sides, situated where the Queen Victoria statue is now. Hope this helps.
