I am researching my ancestors from the village of Aspull and wondered if you could help with identifying some pubs. My Collier family lived in Aspull throught the 1800s - in 1871 my ggg grandad owned a pub called the New Inn - on the census that year it says 'Top of Moor' -thats the only address i can see. I wondered if this is the same New Inn as is in Aspull today on what is now called Ratcliffe Road? They did themselves live on Ratcliffe Road later.
Also after they owned the New Inn, they owned another pub listed on 1881 census as '18 Wigan Road Free Trade inn Public House' - is this the same one as the Queens Head on Wigan Road today?
The pubs today are both on this page if you scroll down:

Finally, i noticed there is a pub in aspull today called the Collier Arms - since my family were the Collier family I though there might be some connection...
Another branch of my family owned pubs too and I looked them up in a book that had been written about local pubs - does anyone know anything like that for the aspull area?
Many thanks for taking the time to read this message
Alison
