Just picked up your message thread from 2005!
I'm just starting out on a genealogy trail for my father's family. This led me to my great grandmother Ellen Pegg. She is registered in the 1891 Census as "Pub. licenzed victualler 2 & 4 Whitecross Street, Derby" This would be the Albert Vaults.
Mt father used to talk about sitting on a window sill at the Albert Vaults watching the Queen go by. He was very young. He was born in 1897 so I don't know yet whether it was the same pub or whether his grandmother was still there because she died in 1900.At some point her daughter Elizabeth Rowley (nee Pegg) worked there but I don't know when. I hadn't realised there was another Albert Vaults in Derby.
Sorry not a lot of info but it may help you to put dates to the pub.
Marjorie
