My ancestors were the publicans of the Welch Harp (later changed to Welsh) at 30 Smith St Warwick from at least the 1820's. Ann Dyke was listed for the years 1828-9 (but I think she was there earlier) and her son-in-law, my gr gr gr grandfather James Simmonds from 1849-62. Apparently there was just a continuation from Ann to James as no other publican was listed in between and James is publican on the 1841 census.
I would be interested to know if anyone has any information on this Inn and also the Nags Head (the original one) in Coton End.. It was run by a William Dyke from at least 1793- 1806 and im trying to work out the family link between the two. The Simmonds and the Dykes both show on later census in Coton End and Smith St.
Hoping someone can help me as Ive reached a dead end
Thankyou
Michelle (Australia)
