At the outset I wish to state that in no sense do I wish to cause any offence to Translink bus drivers who have a job which can be very difficult and stressful at times.
But does anyone else think that some of the bus driving really is quite poor? A friend of mine who doesn't normally use public transport took the Airbus 300 service to and from the International Airport and while her outward journey, on a double decker (presumably 2994 or 5) wasn't bad, the inward journey's driving left a lot to be desired according to her, and that is putting it mildly. This also isn't the first report I've had from a friend about ridiculously fast driving on the Airbus.
Now the fact that it was presumably a Scania Solar that took her back again obviously didn't help matters as I concur completely with previous messages about their poor suspension. But I just think that if some drivers slowed it down a little and drove carefully and gently, the job would be a lot more enjoyable for drivers and the experience for the public alike. I doubt that such a person as a perfect driver exists, but I don't think a bus is designed to be driven "on its brakes".
Again please don't anyone take any offence. These are just my personal opinions and if you want to disagree go ahead. On the very commendable side there is a recently retired driver in Donaghadee who to my mind was the epitomy of good, indeed almost flawless driving. In the same Ulsterbus depot there is a female driver who I think is equally good. There are also a couple of drivers in this depot who changed the semi-automatic gears in Tigers properly (pausing between gears).
Finally I want to end by saying how good a job all Ulsterbus and Citybus drivers do on roads which are getting busier and more dangerous and I commend them for it.
