Adam asks - quite legitimately - why I didn't speak to the people involved in the conversations which I found objectionable at the time the incident occured. At that time I quite simply thought the best thing to do was to move away. However, the more I thought about it after the event - up to and including three days after the event - the more I felt that I should say something, which I did. Whether I was right to do so is for others to judge.
David mentions that my remarks had 'no mention of thanks to the organisers for all the hard work that was put into this event, for [my] and others' benefits!' - I can assure him that having talked to the organisers of the event at some length on the day, they will be in no doubt as to how much I enjoyed every aspect of the day, and of how thoroughly appreciative of their efforts that I was. I didn't feel the need to tell them, via this Board, what they already knew.
Finally, it was never my intention to 'malign what was an enjoyable and highly significant event marking the end of Tiger operation in the Province' - I suspect that most of the people who know me, will be content that, whatever the 'wisdom' of my actions, will know that this was not my intention.
However, if David or anyone feels that I have, then I apologise.
