For the record 1299 has been transferred from Newry to Kells with effect from September 3, 2009
I drove this machine myself yesterday and she is a fantastic bus and should still have a long life - hopefully one hundred years or so - ahead of her.
It is sad to know that she will no longer grace the routes from Newry, who looked after her so fantastically, but it is hoped that she will go to Cultra next year and we will do a sort of farewell to Newry with her, if there is any interest.
1299 was the last Tiger built and she joins the first Ulsterbus Tiger 340 not to mention 385, 400, 443, 460, 1000, 1003, 1122, 1131, 1143, 1200, 12xx, 1274, 1299, 2609, 2610, 2620, 2624 and 2629.
I think it is incredible that so many of one fleet will survive. I do not know of any other museum ever that concentrated on a model to this extent. We hope they will all be well looked after and we plan it that way. Leyland deserve such a tribute.
Anytime anyone wants to see them or even drive them - assuming you can drive in the firet place of course - is welcome.
