These are a common area of corrosion. 2306 required substancial rebuilding of the battery box.
2446 obtained a repaired replacement out of 2512. Its a strange thing though! Most are rotten/quite corroded - others don't have a peep wrong with them!
On the topic of battery boxes / batteries. I was having battery problems a while ago and was struggling to keep my batteries charged up. So i adopted an Ulsterbus tiger modification of duelling the batteries.
Originally the bus would have had four 6Volt high ampage batteries. But unfortunately these are hard to come by and extremly expensive! So standard practise was to use two heavy duty 12Volt batteries. But with the big Gardner engine it takes alot out of the batteries.
Ulsterbus modified most of the tigers with FOUR twelve volt batteries wiring them up in two parallel loops of 24Volts each.
So technically two sets of batteries. This mod has increased ease of starting and voltage supply when engine is not under load.
