Hello JD long time my friend! 2446 is not quite finished yet it still needs the drivers side painting finished. These sort of projects are never 'finished' they always require some form of attention here or there. The gearbox was an unforeseen bit of work that needed done but it couldn't have been identified until the bus was out on the road. Prior to actually getting 2446 I hadn't been for a run on it in several years and only had the luxury of travelling in a car behind her on delivery as I didn't have my license then.
I thought I had it all cracked for MOT but it failed on a drag link end. We got her through MOT and then discovered the gearbox needed changed. We took her for the big run to Portrush and it became apparent that it had picked up ANOTHER fuel leak. Changed the gearbox and one of the handbrake linkages broke. Checking the new gearbox over it now needs a new EP valve as the on in her is worn and leaks a bit and could possibly cause band wear.
By the time I change the EP valve the only thing on the bus that won't have had any form of work/repair/overhaul/replacement will be the left hand side track rod end and as sure as the night is dark thats probably going to need looked at at some point in the future!
I have all the major hurdles out of the way but it is an ongoing process. Things always need tinkered, adjusted and replaced but if you want to enjoy it out on the road that the price you have to pay. But I always said whats the point in having the bus, doing all the work on it and never taking it on the road for myself and other people to enjoy. I will accept that 2446 will never be perfect in some people mind but for me it's done to the best of my ability and it is something I take pride in.
And to answer your last question sadly no more buses for me at this present minute in time! I have a another project arriving in March and i've been waiting 9 months for it so you can draw your own conclusions on that!!
Hopefully 2446 will be out sometime soon as I plan to do a Winter run with her (by the way it has 3 new heaters inside so its a nice warm bus!!)
