Posted by Michael (Mad P-Fessor) Evans on 12/25/2006, 2:06 pm Please believe my testimony how my white-bread home-town of Salt Lake City was SHOCKED when Michael G. Cavanaugh tracked through Mr. Brown's whole album on Christmas afternoon in 1965 on KCPX AM/FM (no diversion between the frequencies then). *Cavanaugh is a wonderful man who became my friend, and moved SLC music forward by light years as a commercial DJ. He played jazz on a strong-signal FM station KBRZ last time I was in town.

...still in print on Rhino Records, I think.
I have two reasons now to remember James Brown!
Teenagers like me were thrilled, and called each other on the phone to make sure all our friends shared the experience.
Michael G. took a lot of heat, but the station manager backed him up (this time*), because Mr. Brown was right up there with the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and the Beach Boys as his most-requested artists that season. KCPX had been a Rock station for only about 6 months, and they wanted to keep their new audience happy!
