I guess at that point Bootsy and Phelps could have been up there. My dad helped promote the show so we were on the front row and dad played 2nd trumpet back from behind a curtain because 1 of JB's horn players was not available. Then in about 75/76 dad and I ran into JB at a UGA Football game. He had on a blue jean vest and cowboy hat with no shirt and was walking around the concession stand personally handing out copies of one of his new singles. Remember it like it was yesterday. I was only 10. My dad was all ga-ga but I had no idea of why at that point. He kept saying, there he is, Mr. Dynamite. Then mom chastised dad for bringing home the 'x-rated' Look at Those Cakes lp in Xmas 79. I did not see JB again until sophomore year in college in concert in Montgomery Ala. Bobby Blue Bland, Denise Lasalle opened the gig and then JB with special guest Maceo Parker. They tore the roof clean off and it was at that point that I realized this man is the Father of Funk. I talked to him a couple of times on the phone for some radio drops about 88-89. Then in 99 we brought him to Atlanta for the Stone Souled Picnic and got to hang backstage after the show and take pics. --Previous Message--

My parents started it all and I blame/thank them for my obsession with the funk for taking a 4- year- old bustin' bob to the Univ. of Ga. Colliseum to see the Godfather in 1969.
I love that mugg.
