I traveled for three years. I enjoyed it a great deal. The pay was a little higher than a full time job in a hospital but the real benefit was working with O.T.s from other states and learning new things. Sometimes I had the opportunity to teach OT students doing field work assignments. When I was traveling, you had to be a OT with at least one year experience. I understand now that some travel companies will hire new grads. The problem is that you will generally be expected to work independently on all types of diagnosis. Without experience, that may be a problem. The settings you are sent to do not expect you to need any training. Traveling positions are generally available because some hospital or rehab company is needing someone to temporarily fill in while they try to hire a full time therapist so they expect that you can jump right in and treat patients without need for training or supervision. That is real difficult for new grads.
