I was 5 yrs old when my parents moved to Glendale. My father was an accountant for Amerada Petroleum which had space in the S.T.B. He rode the red cars every day from glendale to S.T. Bldg. As a child, I often rode the cars all the way and then back for the adventure. I still recall the musty smell of the subway mixed with ozone from electric flashes. I recall those lonely light bulbs flashing by in arched recesses in walls of tunnel. My dad remembers riding wooden cars and commented on seeing the boards moving against each other. There was a high trestle somewhere towards glendale and I closed my eyes when we went over it. I can still picture the dashboards at each end and the olive green and black zebra striped seats. And of course the little turning wheel with a clicking sound from the deposit box. I miss all of that.
