on the V:the movie DVD directors comment section, the director talks about filming in the Belmont Tunnel and he mentions that in the 50s and 60s, there was 300,000 boxes of crackers for Angelenos to eat, in case of a nuclear war. He also mentions that cars rcvd by the LAPD Narc Div, were stored in the tunnel until they were auctioned off.
: Anyone have any information on use of the
: Subway Terminal Building as a fallout
: shelter after the trains stopped running?
: The LA times of 10/26/62, at the height of
: the Cuban Missile Crisis, has a story about
: the building, which was one of two shelters
: that were stocked with supplies. The Subway
: Terminal Bldg. was said to be equipped for
: 10,000 people to take shelter.
:
: The story describes the shelter a bit, but
: does anyone have any more information?
:
: Thanks.
