: My grandfather was a maintenance yard forman
: for the P.E. I remember as a child he had
: all sorts of P.E. items that I guess were
: auctioned off when it shut down. I have his
: retirement watch and book showing numerous
: pictures of the various lines running thru
: the city and by the ocean. Does anyone else
: know/ or is it just a rumor that the redcars
: were dumped into the ocean off the coast
: years ago? I guess the idea was to make a
: reef or something. Gramps worked on other
: railroad cars, and once as a child we
: visited the railroad museum in Lomita and he
: told me to crawl under an engine and find
: his initials he had scratched there years
: ago. I found them, he said it was a custom
: for mechanics to do so when they worked on a
: car. I also understand there is a rumor of
: a terminal downtown with redcars still in it
: that is buried and sealed off? It would be
: a virtual time travel to enter that place if
: it exists. I dont know if it is true or not
: but I heard the rumor years ago.
:
I have to agree with you eric, the buried train terminal does sound like an urban legend. But then who knows. when the cost of removing an object is more than the cost of just covering it over, then the logical thing for a business going out of business is to do the easy thing. A trasure may just await!! Joe
