i have been in the tunnel a few times. there are definite signs that people have been all through there, but nobody lives in there now. it's too toxic too stay for too long. there are natural springs at the end, where the tunnel is blocked off. water also drips down from above, making beautiful cave formations. i've read alot of things about it, but i haven't come across any real reasons why the tunnel couldn't be used again, for mass transportation, or something else. check out my photos to see inside this thing. http://belmonttunnel2004.funtigo.com/
