Hi
This is my first time on the site. I've read some of the posts and am relieved that I'm not alone. Thanks for posting.
The situation is that I get panic attacks mainly when I drive. It is impossible for me to avoid driving as I am in school and also work in various locations doing freelance media. However, the panic attacks are now causing me to loose work. I've begun to cancel trips that involve traveling of any sort, especially planes. Today I drove three hours out of my way (in addition to the regular time the trip takes) just to avoid driving over a certain bridge. You could say that this particular bridge is ruining my life, because it is the fastest way to get to most of the places I work. The reason I hate this bride so much is that it has no sturdy railings, no breakdown lane on either side, and it's un-usually long. I'm not just imagining this due to the panic attacks! I used to travel this bridge all the time, then last summer I had my first panic attack while crossing it. I don't even know what triggered the attack -- it was a beautiful day and I was in a great mood. Anyway, I ended up in the hospital because I thought it was a seizure or a heart attack. I had NEVER heard one thing about the symptoms before.
In addition, I'm engaged to be married and I'm not sure my fiance understands what I'm going through. I mean, I don't understand either. It is beginning to cause problems in our relationship because whenever we disagree about something, I just lie in bed and take lots of xanax (which I got from a friend, I have not been able to find any doctor who will take a new patient). Where can I get some real help?
