There is a book by Harold N. Levinson, M.D. called "Phobia Free" linking 90 percent of all panic attacks to a physical problem...most having to do with the inner ear. It may help you. I bought mine through Amazon researching panic attacks.
: -Hi Carla (and others): Thank you for this
: reply. Yes, it sounds totally like
: Tourrette's. But that has an onset around
: teenagehood, unless someone undergoes very
: unusual circumstances. I think people
: believe it to be genetic.
: The doctors are pretty convinced it is
: anxiety. Sigh. That's why I'm writing -
: it makes no sense.
: For what it is worth, the poor guy fell
: down and hit his head about a month before
: the symptoms started. He wants to
: attribute it to that. But the doctors say
: that he is trying to shift the blame to
: that (concrete, physical) rather than face
: the psychological problems that are making
: him super-anxious.
: Just before the shouting started, he was
: diagnosed with a hearing loss in one ear.
: That *really* devastated him, and made him
: panicky and despairing.
: Sigh. Incredibly complicated story. We
: just want him well, of course. I sent
: him a book I've used "Hope and Help
: for your Nerves". My hubby also sent
: him "Feeling good" which is
: rooted in cog/behav therapy I guess. It
: is very bad - he is really disabled by
: this.
: Take care and Hugs to you. -Sunny
