I know exactly what you are going through. I have panic attacks when I am driving to work. I work in the city and it is about an hour commute each day. Somedays, I go back home 10 times before actually leaving for work and I take back roads to avoid the parkway. I have several suggestions that may be able to help. Having a cell phone and someone who can calm you down is always helpful. Also having some good music for distractions. For me, Dave Matthews always helps. I put the CD on and sing the whole way to work. It is soothing and I do not think about having an attack.

: : i can seriously relate to the driving while
: having a panic attack. just today i was
: driving down the highway and it started and
: i took my neds before i left (ATIVAN) and as
: i was still driving it got worse. so i
: prayed to the lord this usally helps me but
: not this time. so i thought i can just pull
: off the highway to the nearest hospital. but
: i did not make it. i seen a police office
: going down a road a chased him down for help
: he got the fire and rescue there for me in
: minutes. they talked to my and calmed me
: down but i had to go to the hospital for
: them to give and iv anyway it just kept
: coming back. with 9 years of research and
: panic/anxiety attacks i am severe case i
: take meds 4 times a day and own 4 businesses
: and stress is a big factor in this.
: excersing helps alot. And having someone to
: talk to so if you dont have a cell phone get
: one, they do come in handy. find the right
: person to help you talk you self out of it.
: i do alot of self help therapy. i hope this
: helps.

: I have been having a hard time driving
: (especially driving alone) ever since I had
: a panic attack in my car. I tend to get
: very panicky on busy streets and stopping at
: red lights. I feel like I have to escape as
: soon as possible, but I can't because I am
: stuck at a red light surrounded by cars.
: Can anyone relate or have tips on what to do
: when that happens? Thanks.
:
:
: That used to happen to me alot...and
: sometimes it still does on occasion..I can
: sympathize with the being stuck at lights
: and feeling like you can't get out. I have
: found a few different things that help 1) I
: try to do deep breathing and focus my mind
: on something completely different like a
: song on the radio or where I am going and
: what I need to get done. 2) My klonopin
: can come in handy in emergency cases,
: sometimes just knowing I have it available
: calms me down. 3)My thyroid was a BIG
: contributor to my anxiety/panic attacks and
: keeping up with my medications and getting
: it under control has been a huge help...
