I have the same problem. I used to drive all over. and then one day, during my pregnancy, I was driving and had a HUGE panic attack. It scared me to the point I wouldn't drive anymore. You have to force yourself to do it. No matter what otherwise you won't get back in the car. I know because I didn't. I finally got to the point where I would drive a little bit here and there and now I'm back in the same boat because I didn't stick it out. Try looking at the odometer and try to guess how many miles it will be before you get to your destination. Or try playing the alphabet game, pick a subject, like boys names or something harder like insults with no curse words and play... A = Adam, B= Brian and so forth. Some way you have to get your mind off of the anxiety and back to what you were doing. remember there is always a way out. you can always stop and call someone.pull off the road and collect yourself. remember you are in control and if the panic comes on, let it. don't "feed it" it'll only get worse. breathe and tell yourself here comes the rush but I'm going to breathe through it and it'll be fine. you can email me anytime at jesseott34@hotmail.com
: I have been having a hard time driving
: (especially driving alone) ever since I had
: a panic attack in my car. I tend to get
: very panicky on busy streets and stopping at
: red lights. I feel like I have to escape as
: soon as possible, but I can't because I am
: stuck at a red light surrounded by cars.
: Can anyone relate or have tips on what to do
: when that happens? Thanks.
